The Australian game development industry earned $425 million in fiscal year 2025.

According to the latest data from the 10th Annual Australian Game Developers Survey, published by the Interact Play and Recreation Association (IGEA), the Australian game development industry generated $608.5 million (approximately $425 million) in revenue in 2025.

The survey showed that the industry was stabilizing after a period of volatility. In Australia, 30 per cent of the studios have been in operation for at least 10 years, and 19 per cent have been active for 6 to 9 years. Despite some job losses, the level of employment has remained stable overall, and the sector currently supports 2443 full-time jobs. A number of workshops are planned to expand their teams in 2026, especially in large enterprises with mature production processes. At the same time, early development remains a prominent feature of the ecosystem. About 31 per cent of the studios reported that they were developing their first game in 2025. Data indicate that this again highlights the continuing importance of public funds and tax incentives in supporting new entrants and helping indigenous developers to compete internationally.

IGEA CEO Ron Curry stated: “These latest data further highlight the value of the Australian Game Developer Survey as a tool to demonstrate industry growth to federal, state and territorial governments. It has enabled us to more effectively demonstrate the need for sustained support through initiatives such as digital game tax credits and direct funding.” “We continue to strongly encourage the participation of studios across Australia in the survey so that we can gather the most comprehensive and accurate data and ensure that we have the clearest understanding of how best to support a dynamic Australian game development industry.”
