The co-founder of the CDPR acquired GOG at full capacity, committed to the DRM concept and game preservation mission. Posted on 12/31/2025 By plottips The co-founder of CD Projekt, Mikhar Kichinsky, has completed a 100 per cent equity acquisition of GOG, a non-digital copyright management (DRM) platform. The acquisition of the GOG, created in 2008 with the participation of Kichinsky and operating through the CD Projekt subsidiary, marked the complete ownership of the platform by its founders. Kichinsky stressed that GOG would continue to “operate independently and serve as a driver and developer of the DRM concept”. The company states that its core mission remains the same: “Let the game last”. Kichinsky says: “CD Projekt is linked to the roots of the GoG, sharing the values of freedom, independence and true ownership. I am confident that CD Projekt will continue to support the GoG with its outstanding 3A game — making it the best platform for the purchase of the current and future new works of the Wizard’s Cyberpunk series.” As a senior player, Kichinsky says that he’s always rereading the classics and is deeply convinced that many of the old works are original: “I am convinced that a carefully crafted classic can be no less fun than the new ones. At the purely fungible level, the pillar of eternity is often a more secure choice, especially in markets where there are many low-quality games. In addition to preserving the classics, GOG has been working to discover new games with a retrograde spirit. I personally have been involved in the development of a number of such games, which will certainly make a strong landing on the GOG platform in 2026.” CD Projekt’s Joint Chief Executive Officer, Mikhar Novakov, added: “This is the best time for this adjustment as we focus fully on the ambitious road map for development and through the expansion of IP through new high-quality products. The GOG has been operating independently for a long time and is now at the disposal of a distinguished steering man — we are confident that, with the support of co-founder Kichinsky, its future will be full of outstanding projects and successes.” Under the Acquisition Agreement, GOG has signed a distribution agreement with CD Projekt, under which all future CD Projekt Red new works will be sold on the GOG platform. It is a matter of concern that, at a time when V. and Epic had previously played the controversial terrorist game ” Horse ” , GOG insisted that it should be put on the table, stating that it “given the player the freedom to choose the content of the game and gave the creator the space to present the work of art”. GOG also has a long-standing commitment to the preservation of games by launching the Game Conservation Programme last November, which aims to ensure that classic games are compatible with modern and future systems, and by joining the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects, which continues to promote the preservation of game cultural heritage.
